TripAdvisor scrubs warnings of rape, tainted alcohol at Mexican resorts, travelers say
TripAdvisor admitted to deleting posts in which reviewers described incidents of rape or blacking out after drinking tainted liquor. (Reuters) More than a dozen travelers from around the United States say reviews website TripAdvisor is deleting and muzzling their first-hand accounts of rape, blackouts and other injuries suffered during vacations to Mexico, according to an extensive investigation published Wednesday by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The damning report comes two days after U.S. officials called on the State Department and the Office of the Inspector General to conduct additional investigations on Mexican resorts that are serving dangerous, bootleg alcohol. Tourists who spoke to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel say the posts are frequently removed because they are labeled by TripAdvisor as “hearsay.” “To me it’s like censoring,” Wendy Avery-Swanson of Phoenix told the newspaper after her review of a Mexican resort – in which she said … [Read more...] about TripAdvisor scrubs warnings of rape, tainted alcohol at Mexican resorts, travelers say
Plane Travelling To Carlsbad Lands On Freeway
From the City of Carlsbad: December 12, 2019 A single engine Cessna traveling from El Monte to Carlsbad Thursday evening reported engine trouble just prior to making an emergency landing on I-5 near Tamarack. No cars were involved, and the male pilot and female passenger were not injured. Traffic came to a standstill for about 30 minutes as Caltrans and the CHP closed all southbound lanes. City of Carlsbad police and fire assisted at the scene. Multiple 9-1-1 calls came in around 7:11 p.m. reporting the plane in trouble. The pilot radioed ahead to the control tower at McLellan-Palomar Airport prior to landing on the freeway with a cockpit full of smoke. The FAA and NTSB will complete an investigation into the incident. Caltrans and the CHP anticipated the plane could be removed and all lanes reopened late Thursday night. About 53 gallons of fuel were being removed from the plane before moving it off the freeway. Drivers are being asked to take an alternate route to avoid the area … [Read more...] about Plane Travelling To Carlsbad Lands On Freeway
Have Yourself a Delhi Little Christmas
Our Airbnb host in Delhi, where we landed at 7am on Christmas Eve in the worst bit of travel planning since a heavily pregnant carpenter’s wife headed up to Bethlehem in late December without booking ahead, had the coveted “super host” rating and a “sparkling clean” badge, but I didn’t think telling that to my wife would stop her crying. Now, my missus is not high maintenance, but, as she explained between sobs, she just needed to sleep. After a long and sleepless 18-hour journey from Dublin to Delhi via Helsinki with our three kids aged 13, 12, and 4 in tow, what was stopping her? The fact the bed didn’t have a top sheet, just something that looked like a 1970s student wall drape stretched over the mattress and some furry synthetic blankets piled on top that were perfectly soft and warm (it’s cold in Delhi at night at this time of year), but, as I found it impossible to forget after Sasha pointed it out, were unlikely to have been … [Read more...] about Have Yourself a Delhi Little Christmas
LAX Lost And Found Goes Online For Convenience
LOS ANGELES, CA — With the holiday travel season in high gear, LAX officials reminded travelers who misplace items while passing through the airport that a lost-and-found system is available online. Travelers can identify lost items, file claims and recover property by visiting www.flylax.com/en/lax-baggage-lost-and-found. "LAX is increasingly investing in technology and new innovations to help improve the overall guest experience, and lost and found is another touchpoint where we can utilize technology to help people reunite with a beloved stuffed animal, computer and more," said Barbara Yamamoto, Los Angeles World Airports' director of guest experience and innovation. Officials said an average of 5,000 to 7,000 items are left behind at Los Angeles International Airport each month and taken to a lost and found warehouse. Recovered items that are not recovered after 90 days are sent to the city of Los Angeles auction site, The Salvation Army or Goodwill. Owners can file a claim … [Read more...] about LAX Lost And Found Goes Online For Convenience
