I am grateful for the article and family of Alyssa Kapnik Samuel, not only for their willingness to share their grandmother’s story but also to their strong commitment to supporting their family member at home, as she wished. One hundred percent of us cringe at the thought of living and dying in a nursing facility, yet we only see the existence of such places increasing. There are so many reforms necessary to make skilled nursing palatable that it is difficult to know where to start. There is no right way to do the wrong thing.
