The small, scenic river town of Klamath River in Northern California was left in ashes this week after the almighty McKinney Fire swept through. For its 200 residents, life and the landscape is forever changed. Photos from the remnants of the community, still under evacuation orders, reveal the devastation. “It’s very sad. It’s very disheartening,” 80-year-old Roger Derry told the Associated Press , “Some of our oldest homes, 100-year-old homes, are gone. It’s a small community. Good people, good folks, for the most part, live here and in time will rebuild. But it’s going to take some time now.” The unincorporated community stretches for 11 miles along Highway 96 on the banks of the Klamath River — the second-largest river in California, that runs from Upper Klamath Lake in Oregon some 257 miles to the Pacific coast. Few corners of America can boast the array of wildlife found along the shores of the Klamath. The basin is home to the largest herd of deer in California, … [Read more...] about Photos show McKinney Fire’s destruction of Klamath River, a California town turned to ash

Couple Nabbed in College Student’s Mysterious Murder 12 Years Later
Cops have nabbed a South Carolina couple they say shot and killed a 19-year-old college student before dumping his body on the side of a rural road outside Wichita, Kansas, in 2010. Kristopher and Candance Valadez, both 32, were taken into custody this weekend on murder charges in the death of German ‘Luis’ Clerici—an Argentine immigrant known for having a thick New Jersey accent in the heart of the midwest. At the time, Clerici’s death shocked his loved ones, including his girlfriend, Shauna McKee, who vowed in 2010 that her partner’s killers would be found one day. “SO...... any one know anything about my boyfriend’s murdered that wants to come clean?” McKee wrote to Facebook . “Just know, the truth will come out one day.” Twelve years later, that day has arrived, according to police. The couple were arrested in South Carolina over the weekend, where they shared a 5-bedroom home outside of Greenville, property appraiser and arrest records show. Local deputies and … [Read more...] about Couple Nabbed in College Student’s Mysterious Murder 12 Years Later
Pelosi-Aligned PAC Spends $20M on Midterms to Save House Majority

In the numbers first reported by Axios, Pelosi’s Super PAC will spend roughly $20 million in an attempt to flood the airwaves from September to the November election night. The campaign ads will reportedly tout the party’s accomplishments, which the Democrats have had little of, and attack their Republican opponents, which they call “extremist,” despite their own radical bills they have attempted to pass. House Majority PAC will use this as an attempt to boost the House Democrats in the final months of the midterm cycle, where they are projected to lose the majority and give the Republicans a majority of between 12 and 35 seats. Axios noted that in addition to giving the final push for safe district Democrats, the ad campaign would be a … [Read more...] about Pelosi-Aligned PAC Spends $20M on Midterms to Save House Majority
