Cherry Creek’s Parker Wolfe on Thursday was named the Gatorade Colorado cross country player of the year. The 5-foot-7 senior was the Class 5A state champion after setting a course record of 15 minutes, 10.4 seconds at the Colorado Springs meet in October. Wolfe had finished third in the state championships the year prior. “Parker has taken about 30 seconds off his 5K time every year because of his constant dedication and focus,” Cherry Creek coach Ethan Dusto said in a news release. “He’s amazing at doing all the little things correctly, and does a great job of staying humble and being part of the team.” Wolfe, who has a 3.86 grade-point average, signed a National Letter of Intent to North Carolina for cross country and track and field. Tony Blinken Admits: Some American Workers ‘Will Be Hit Hard’ by Biden’s Climate Change Policy
Secretary of State Tony Blinken delivered an address on climate change at the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland on Monday in which he admitted that some American workers “would be hit hard” by the Biden administration’s policies. Blinken said that the U.S. needed to lead the global fight against climate change, warning that if global surface temperatures continued to rise, in 80 years, the Chesapeake would extend further inland, destroying infrastructure and putting local plants and animals at risk, as well as the local fishing industry. Referring to the “climate crisis,” Blinken noted that President Joe Biden had rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement immediately on taking office. He did not note that U.S. emissions had continued to decline after the U.S. left the agreement under President Donald Trump. “If America fails to lead the world on the climate crisis, we won’t have much of a world left,” Blinken said, sounding an alarmist tone that scientists have begun to criticize more openly. Blinken also claimed that “weather events are becoming more extreme,” another claim that scientists have criticized. Much of Blinken’s speech focused on domestic policy — for example, stressing the need for “good, paying jobs, and the opportunity to join a union” as part of climate change policy. At one point, Blinken admitted that Biden’s policy would cause job losses for some Americans. “We will be mindful that for all the opportunities offered by the unavoidable shift to clean energy, not every American worker will win out in the near term. Some livelihoods and communities that relied on old industries will be hit hard.” But, he promised: “We won’t leave those Americans behind. We’ll provide our fellow Americans with pathways to new, sustainable livelihoods, and support as they navigate this transition.” Biden canceled the Keystone XL pipeline on his first day in office, despite an Obama administration assessment that it was not an environmental threat. So, there was no time to step away and pump breast milk for her child. Garner continued, “My boobs were freaking out. It was bedtime, and we were doing some scene that was supposed to be light, and I started crying and I was like, ‘I have to quit. I have to go home and be with my kids. I just can’t do this anymore.'” The “Alias” star went on to explain how it was the “Interstellar” star who came up to her and asked what’s going on and made things right. “And sweet Matthew McConaughey pulled me aside and said, ‘What is going on with you?'” Garner shared as she appeared to get emotional recalling how he got the crew to take a break. “And from then on, whenever I needed to, I would give him a high sign and I would go take care of it,” she added. “He said, ‘You can do both. You’ve got it. You can do it.'” The superstar actress continued, “How much do I love that guy? I know, a lot.” ...
Florida House passes bill banning transgender female athletes from women’s teams
Florida's state House on Wednesday passed a bill that would ban transgender female athletes from joining women’s public school and college sports teams. The “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act,” if signed into law, would require that sports team eligibility be based on a student's “biological sex,” which refers to the sex assigned at birth. The bill adds that “under certain circumstances,” schools and institutions would be required to “request a certain health examination and consent form or other statement from the student’s health care provider to verify the student’s biological sex.” ADVERTISEMENT The intent of the legislation, according to the text, is to “maintain opportunities for female athletes to demonstrate their skill, strength, and athletic abilities,” in addition to providing them with opportunities to receive various recognitions and accolades. The bill also aims to “promote sex equality by requiring the designation of separate sex-specific athletic teams or sports.” The legislation passed through the state House in a mostly party-line vote of 77 to 40. All Republicans present for the vote supported the legislation, and one Democrat crossed party lines and voted for the bill, according to Fox 13 . Attention will now turn to the Republican- controlled Senate, where a similar bill is being considered. Legislation limiting participation for transgender athletes have sprung up in a number of states across the country. Last month, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves (R) signed the year’s first ban on transgender athletes participating in women’s sports in public schools, which is set to go into effect on July 1. ADVERTISEMENT On Monday, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) expressed support for transgender athletes, announcing in a statement that it would not host college championships in states where laws discriminate against them. “When determining where championships are held, NCAA ...
‘Demi Lovato Is an Insufferable Karen’: Pop Star Slammed After Lecturing L.A. Frozen Yogurt Shop for Its ‘Diet Foods’
Demi Lovato, the gun control-pushing pop star who endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016, is being slammed as a “dumb and self-centered Karen” on social media after she attacked The Bigg Chill — a frozen yogurt shop in Los Angeles — for “triggering” her by having “sugar free cookies” and “other diet foods” available in the store. “FINDING IT EXTREMELY HARD TO ORDER FROYO FROM [The Bigg Chill] WHEN YOU HAVE TO WALK PAST TONS OF SUGAR-FREE COOKIES/OTHER DIET FOODS BEFORE YOU GET TO THE COUNTER,” Lovato lamented in an Instagram Story, before adding, “DO BETTER PLEASE,” along with the hashtag, “Diet Culture Vultures.” “So I think I’m gonna have to make that hashtag a thing,” Lovato said in a follow-up post. “I will be calling [out] harmful messaging from brands or companies that perpetuate a society that not only enables but praises disordered eating. #dietculturevultures.” In another Instagram Story, Lovato shared a purported screenshot of her private messages between herself and The Bigg Chill. “We are not diet culture vultures. We cater to all of our customers needs for the past 36 years. We are sorry if you found this offensive,” the frozen yogurt shop told Lovato. Lovato responded to the company by doubling down on her initial stance, adding that her “whole experience was triggering.” “Not just that. Your service was terrible. So rude,” she said. “The whole experience was triggering and awful. You can carry things for other people while also caring for another percentage of your customers who struggle DAILY just to even step foot in your store.” “You can find a way to provide an inviting environment for all people with different needs. Including eating disorders — one of the deadliest mental illnesses only second to [opioid] overdoses. Don’t make excuses, just do better,” the singer added. Lovato was then slammed on social media by users who said her outrage over the frozen yogurt shop was “so immature,” and “the definition of pathetic.” i legit ...
