Biden Says U.S. Will Defend Taiwan Against China — or Maybe Not

May 23, 2022 by nymag.com Leave a Comment

Photo: Nicolas Datiches/Bloomberg via Getty Images President Joe Biden said on Monday that the U.S. has made a commitment to defend Taiwan if the island democracy is attacked by China , which would end the long-standing U.S. policy of strategic ambiguity toward the country whose independence China does not recognize. During a press briefing in Tokyo , Biden first said that the U.S. policy toward Taiwan remains unchanged, though China’s provocations regarding the conflict are “already flirting with danger.” Then, later, when asked if the U.S. is willing to use its military to intervene in the event that China attacks, Biden responded, “Yes, it’s a commitment we made.” He added that while the U.S. acknowledges — but does not agree with — China’s territorial claim to Taiwan, “the idea that it can be taken by force, just taken by force, it’s just not appropriate. It will dislocate the entire region and be another action similar to what happened in Ukraine. It’s a burden … [Read more...] about Biden Says U.S. Will Defend Taiwan Against China — or Maybe Not

close Video Bidens host Cinco de Mayo event with Mexico's first lady NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles! Under President Joe Biden’s failed foreign policy leadership, Mexico has shown its willingness to undermine America’s strategic interests. Over the past two years, Mexico has been more of an enemy than a partner. Nothing has underscored Mexico’s exploitation of President Biden’s weakness than their posture on immigration and cozying up to communists in Cuba. J.D. Vance, Blake Masters Poised to Expand America First Foreign Policy Caucus in the Senate

May 25, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

The election of Blake Masters in Arizona and J.D. Vance in Ohio would likely expand the emerging America First foreign policy caucus in the U.S. Senate. Last week, the Senate voted to grant Ukraine $40 billion in military and economic aid, which revealed a chasm between the America First conservatives in the Senate, who want to deescalate conflict with Russia, and more establishment-style Republicans who want to expand America’s role in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Eleven Senate Republicans — representing more than a fifth of the Senate GOP conference — voted against the Ukraine aid package, believing that it is not America’s place to intervene in distant conflicts, spend money abroad while Americans cope with record-high inflation, and appropriate tens of billions of dollars without proper offsets to foreign aid spending. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), the Missouri populist, was one of the 11 Republicans that voted against the $40 billion Ukraine aid package. In an … [Read more...] about J.D. EXCLUSIVE: No, Jen Psaki, Trump Didn’t Start The DHS ‘Truth Ministry.’ That’s Literal Disinformation

May 13, 2022 by dailycaller.com Leave a Comment

White House press secretary Jen Psaki has spread disinformation repeatedly from the podium while speaking about the Disinformation Governance Board, claiming its “work” was present under the Trump administration. Psaki’s go-to defense of the establishment of the board under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a continuation “of disinformation-related work that began under the prior administration.” One of the key bodies countering disinformation founded under former President Donald Trump, the Countering Foreign Influence Task Force (CFITF), was renamed by the Biden administration when he came into office the Mis-, Dis-, and Malinformation (MDM) and was modified to focus on domestic rather than foreign threats, two Trump DHS officials told the Daily Caller. “The CFITF was focused on foreign influence – particularly as it related to elections. The current MDM description from DHS takes the word ‘foreign’ out of the title. It’s clear that MDM, as it’s currently defined, … [Read more...] about EXCLUSIVE: No, Jen Psaki, Trump Didn’t Start The DHS ‘Truth Ministry.’ That’s Literal Disinformation

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 9 BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Intellectuals, broadcasters and cultural figures from Hungary's Roma community are using the airwaves to reframe narratives and elevate the voices of the country's largest minority group. Radio Dikh — a Romani word that means “to see” — has broadcast since January on FM radio in Hungary's capital, Budapest. Its 11 programs focus on Roma music, culture and the issues faced by their community, and aim to recast the way the often disadvantaged minority group is perceived by broader society. “Roma people in general don’t have enough representation in mainstream media … and even if they do, it’s oftentimes not showing the right picture or the picture that is true to the Roma community,” said Bettina Pocsai, co-host of a show that focuses on social issues. Radio Dikh, she said, aims to "give voice to Roma people and make sure … [Read more...] about Radio station elevates voices of Hungary’s Roma minority

Finland formally seeks entry into NATO alliance

May 15, 2022 by www.latimes.com Leave a Comment

Lviv, Ukraine — Leaders of Finland said Sunday that the Nordic nation plans to seek membership in North Atlantic Treaty Organization, a move almost certain to escalate geopolitical tensions arising from the Russian war in Ukraine. At a joint news conference in the presidential palace in Helsinki, President Sauli Niinisto and Prime Minister Sanna Marin announced the decision by Finland—which has long been a neutral country—to apply for entry into the U.S.-led alliance. “This is a historic day,” Niinisto said. “A new era begins.” Finland shares a more than 800-mile border with Russia, which views any expansion of the 30-member NATO bloc towards its territory as a grave security threat. Ukraine’s emergence as a western ally that could potentially join NATO is cited by many experts as a major reason why President Vladimir Putin decided to invade Ukraine. Sweden has already taken steps towards joining NATO. And a bid by Georgia—the former Soviet republic—is again on the … [Read more...] about Finland formally seeks entry into NATO alliance
