(CBS DETROIT) — The sky will be filled with bright colors once again for the 64th annual Ford Fireworks. The show returns to downtown Detroit at about 10 p.m. on June 27 for an in-person viewing with the theme “Hey Detroit, The Sky Shines for You!” For the last two years, the show was held with no crowd at the Lake St. Clair Metropark due to COVID-19 restrictions. The Ford Fireworks can also be viewed on WDIV-TV (Local 4) beginning at 8 p.m. on June 27. Ford Receives $101M Incentive Package To Expand In Michigan
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan lawmakers approved a $101 million incentive package for Ford Motor Co. for a planned project that will create 3,030 jobs and $1.16 billion in manufacturing facility investments throughout the state. The tax-funded incentive will be paid in increments and is contingent on Ford hitting promised employment targets. General Motors Delivers 150 Electric Vans To FedEx
(CNN) — General Motors’ electric delivery van subsidiary, BrightDrop, has delivered 150 vans to FedEx, the companies announced Tuesday. This comes after five of the vans were delivered to FedEx last December and it marks BrightDrop’s first sizable delivery of vans. FedEx and GM had previously announced deals for the package delivery company to purchase 2,500 of BrightDrop’s electric vans with negotiations for another 20,000 vans pending. Trump’s Deputies Extend Work Permits for 1,000s of Foreign Workers
Fortune 500 companies are rushing a federal agency to extend work permits for thousands of H-1B visa workers as President Donald Trump and his deputies argue over visa curbs that would help Americans regain jobs lost in the coronavirus crash. Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook asked and got “continuing approval” extensions for 611 of its H-1B visa-workers from the staff at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services agency. Each visa extension allows a foreign H-1B worker to stay another three years. Tim Cook’s Apple got 647 extensions, Bill Gates’ Microsoft snagged 903 extensions, and Jeff Bezos’ Amazon got 1,245 extensions from the agency, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security. Just 62 of these 3,497 requests for foreign workers were denied by USCIS, according to data displayed by the agency’s ‘ H-1B Employer Data Hub .’ The denial rate of just 1.8 percent closed off 3,435 jobs needed by the growing number of unemployed American professionals.
