A 12-year-old boy in Washington state was rescued Tuesday after he fell 20 feet down a well during recess and was found clinging to a plastic pipe to keep himself above water, officials said. Firefighters in Marysville responded just before 12:30 p.m. and found the boy partially submerged in water, Marysville Fire District said, adding that the boy was unable to touch the bottom of the well. The boy told officials that he was standing on the concrete lid of the well during recess when the concrete partially collapsed, sending him plummeting into the well. A Great Equestrian Fell From a Horse. Can He Get Back Up?
LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. — “Does this remind you of something?” the teenager shouted to her parents, who were watching from their farmhouse’s back porch. “You guys were usually the ones running next to us!” As part of a riding lesson, she was sprinting alongside a pony with a giggling girl in the saddle. It was the kind of lesson her parents, Kevin and Dianna Babington, had given her and her sister years before. The parents smiled at the memory. Now, their 14-year-old daughter was the one leading that brown pony around the ring. The Babingtons know not to take such moments for granted. Until last August, Kevin Babington, an Olympian, was having a remarkable career as a rider for hire in the equestrian sport of show jumping, in which horses leap fences set up over a winding course. Babington, 51, would take clients’ horses and increase their value — sometimes into the millions — by riding them to top finishes. Last July, he swept the top three places at a Grand Prix event on … [Read more...] about A Great Equestrian Fell From a Horse. Can He Get Back Up?

Warriors’ Poole fell so hard, people are debating if Lakers’ Reaves is better
For as bad as Warriors guard Jordan Poole 's 2023 postseason was, Lakers guard Austin Reaves' first playoff run has been just that good. Los Angeles' second-year guard has gone from undrafted Oklahoma product to postseason starter on the surprise 7-seed Lakers — starting the playoffs with a heard-'round-the-NBA “I’m him” opener against the Memphis Grizzlies and never really letting up from there. He's had enough of a meteoric rise (he's now rumored to be headed for a $50 million-plus contract this summer) that, when coupled with Poole's meteoric fall, he has one longtime NBA guard wondering if the Dubs' $128 million man is even better than a minimum-contract guy who couldn't even decide his own nickname . Appearing on his namesake Ringer podcast on Friday, “Off Guard with Austin Rivers,” 11th-year NBA guard Austin Rivers spent seven nuanced minutes debating whom he'd take: Poole or Reaves? “Holy s—t. Isn’t that crazy that that’s a question? ... 'Cause it’s an … [Read more...] about Warriors’ Poole fell so hard, people are debating if Lakers’ Reaves is better
Mark Ronson, a Party Boy No More, Tries on Melancholy After a Parade of Hits
For going on five years now, the record producer Mark Ronson says he has been known by no small number of casual music fans, if they can identify him at all, as “the white guy from the Bruno Mars video .” The fact that “Uptown Funk,” one of the most successful and recognizable pop smashes of this century — with 3.5 billion views on YouTube, 14 weeks at No. 1 and a Grammy for record of the year — actually appeared under Ronson’s name on his 2015 album, “Uptown Special,” is but a trivia footnote. And he’s fine with that. Because for most of his career, Ronson — the princely heir to a New York-via-London society-page family turned downtown D.J. turned super-producer — was the type to feel most comfortable in the studio and in the liner notes for modern giants like Amy Winehouse, Adele, Lady Gaga and Mars. (His parents are Laurence Ronson, a real estate entrepreneur, and Ann Dexter-Jones, the socialite who went on to marry Mick Jones of Foreigner.) But the problem with succeeding … [Read more...] about Mark Ronson, a Party Boy No More, Tries on Melancholy After a Parade of Hits
