Adam Kinzinger Cites Eric Holder as Paragon of Independence; Signed ‘No Confidence’ Resolution in 2011
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) cited former Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday as an example of integrity during the fifth public hearing of the January 6 Committee, yet he signed a “no confidence” resolution in Holder in 2011 over his bias. Holder, who described himself as President Barack Obama’s “ wingman ,” presided over Operation Fast and Furious, a botched scheme to smuggle guns to Mexican cartels and trace their movements, with a view to cracking down on gun sales. These guns were later used in many crimes, including the murder of U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry. Holder refused to cooperate with a congressional panel investigating Operation Fast and Furious, leading the House to hold him in contempt. The Department of Justice, which is now prosecuting two former Trump aides for refusing to cooperate with the January 6 Committee, declined to prosecute Holder. So Kinzinger and other Republicans signed onto a “no confidence” motion in 2011. The motion read , in … [Read more...] about Adam Kinzinger Cites Eric Holder as Paragon of Independence; Signed ‘No Confidence’ Resolution in 2011

Judge says NYC can’t let noncitizens vote in city elections
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 NEW YORK (AP) — New York City can't let noncitizens vote for mayor and other city officials, a judge ruled Monday, siding with Republicans who challenged the measure as unconstitutional. In January, New York became the first major U.S. city to grant widespread municipal voting rights to noncitizens, though none had cast ballots yet. The law didn’t affect presidential, congressional or state elections. The law’s supporters said it gave an electoral voice to many people who have made a home in the city and pay taxes to it but face tough paths to citizenship. New York GOP Chair Nick Langworthy and several Republican elected officials said the law violated provisions in the state constitution and state election law that specifically confer voting rights on citizens. State court Judge Ralph Porzio agreed with the GOP. “Though voting is a right that so many citizens take for … [Read more...] about Judge says NYC can’t let noncitizens vote in city elections

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 NEW YORK (AP) — New York City and state officials announced lawsuits Wednesday against 10 sellers of gun parts that the officials said can be assembled into untraceable ghost guns and sold without background checks. State Attorney General Letitia James and New York City Mayor Eric Adams said the weapons sold by online ghost gun retailers have been found at a growing share of New York's crime scenes. “These are dangerous weapons,” Adams, a former police officer, said at a Manhattan news conference with James and other officials. “We should not think these are just kits used for hobbyists. They are being used by murderers. All of them are illegal.” President Joe Biden announced in April that the U.S. Justice Department was working on new regulations to crack down on ghost guns, which have no serial numbers and have been used in shootings around the country.
