Duke basketball report
Josh Peter USA TODAY Published 9:37 AM EST Feb 17, 2019 DURHAM, N.C. — Mike Krzyzewski was answering questions on Tuesday about the allegation that Corey Maggette, the former Duke basketball star, raped a female Duke student in 1999. On Wednesday and Thursday, one of his freshman phenoms, R.J. Barrett, was sick and throwing up. Yet by Saturday night, Krzyzewski looked loose enough to be on the lido deck of a Carnival Cruise ship. And so the college basketball world outside the confines of Cameron Indoor Stadium should be very worried. Despite recent distractions, Coach K is Coach A-OK because his second-ranked Blue Devils look good to carry him to a sixth national championship. After Duke beat N.C. State 94-78 Saturday night, a reporter noted that Floyd Mayweather had been in attendance and wondered if Krzyzewski watches boxing. During the game, Mayweather was sitting a row behind Duke’s bench and about four seats to the right of Krzyzewski. Seeing is believing: Zion … [Read more...] about Duke basketball: Mike Krzyzewski is making jokes; rivals should worry
CLEVELAND, Ohio - No. 1 Duke became the last team in Division I to play a true road game, Tuesday night at Wake Forest. That’s two months after the start of the season and nearly half way through the college basketball schedule. It was a relatively easy, 87-65, victory over the .500 Demon Deacons, who have the worst record in the ACC.Coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Blue Devils (13-1, 2-0) can expect a much tougher test Saturday at No. 13 Florida State (12-2, 0-1), which first hosts Miami on Wednesday. However, to have a chance at the Duke upset, the Seminoles will likely have to generate much more firepower than what they have shown to date against top level competition.FSU only scored 79 points against LSU, 60 against Villanova, 73 against Purdue and 52 against Virginia. Villanova and Virginia were losses. LSU and Purdue were wins by a combined four points.Duke aside, road games particularly in conference play, continue to expose teams.:No. 20 Iowa State (12-3, 2-1), coming off a … [Read more...] about Finally, Duke gets a road test as Top 25 teams leave comfort of home: College Basketball Report (video)
Scott Gleeson USA TODAY Published 8:25 AM EST Nov 7, 2018 When even five-time NCAA champion coach Mike Krzyzewski is surprised at how ridiculously good his team is on opening night, it puts into perspective just how mind-blowing Duke looked in its 34-point win against Kentucky on Tuesday night "You start four freshmen, no matter how talented they are, you never know what they're going to do in this environment against an outstanding team and great program. And they responded," Krzyzewski told reporters after the game. Boy did they. The Blue Devils' elite freshmen were everything as advertised – and then some. The three-headed monster of R.J. Barrett (33 points), Zion Williamson (28 points) and Cam Reddish (19 points) combined for 80 of Duke's 114 points. But the stat sheet only tells half the story. It was how these teenagers introduced themselves to the college basketball world. Barrett, who has ample international experience … [Read more...] about Duke basketball: Can Blue Devils go undefeated?
Syracuse, N.Y. -- With the Syracuse football team returning to the Carrier Dome for the first time in four weeks on Saturday and the men's basketball team making its public debut last weekend, Syracuse athletic director John Wildhack spent some time discussing the state of the SU athletic department on Tuesday. Below are some of the highlights of that conversation. The sale of Duke men's basketball tickets: Syracuse is handling the sale of tickets for its home game against Duke differently than every other home game this year. Single-game tickets are still not on sale. When they do go on sale, the tickets will start at $90, more than double any other game. The school will use dynamic pricing to set the price for the game, which means the ticket price will change based on the number of seats available and their market value. Syracuse has used that process for other high-profile games in recent years. Wildhack said the dynamic pricing is in response to the elevated prices that can … [Read more...] about Syracuse AD John Wildhack talks Duke basketball tickets, football atmosphere efforts
