"I don't want to do this ... twice." So says Sean Kiernan, owner of the 1968 Ford Bullitt Mustang that could become the most expensive Mustang ever sold when it hits the auction block in January. Kiernan is referring to the grueling and delicate process of selling such a well-known car, the one his dad, Robert, bought in 1974 and used as a family car until 1980. Kiernan the elder passed away in 2014; Kiernan the younger kept the car sitting in the family garage until confirming its presence publicly last year. Famed as the hero car in arguably the greatest car chase scene in film history-Steve McQueen raced it for 10 minutes through the streets of San Francisco in the 1968 thriller Bullitt-the unrestored Mustang fastback in Highland Green will go on sale at no reserve in the Mecum auction on Jan. 10 in Kissimmee, Florida. The move to hold a no-reserve sale is highly unusual for such a car, which is expected to take as much as $5 million. Typically cars of that caliber are offered with … [Read more...] about Muscle-car specialist Mecum beats top auction houses to Steve McQueen’s ‘Bullitt’ car

Hidden Cost Of Driving In MA Is $64 Billion: Study
CAMBRIDGE, MA — When the average Massachusetts driver thinks about what it costs to own a car, they probably lists the obvious costs: car payments, insurance, gas and maintenance. But a study released this week by the Harvard Kennedy School says the costs are much higher than most people realize, and that driving in Massachusetts costs the average family about $14,000 per year — even if they don't own a car. That's because much of the $64.1 billion spent on driving in Massachusetts each year comes in the form of government spending, or that average family's tax dollars going to maintain roads, lost land value and the cost of deaths and injuries caused by car crashes. The study even factored in the cost of lost productivity from all those hours sitting in traffic (it's about $4.6 billion, give or take a few million).Policymakers said the study dispels the myth that only people who use public transit benefit from government transportation subsidies. "The diffusion of spending … [Read more...] about Hidden Cost Of Driving In MA Is $64 Billion: Study
Man In Stolen Car Flees From Police, Charged: Naugatuck Police
NAUGATUCK, CT — A man driving a stolen red Honda CRV fled police back in July but was arrested in New York and extradited back to Naugatuck this week, police said. He was released on a $10,000 bond. At 1:43 a.m. on July 18, police tried to stop the car driven by Michael McCann-Ortiz, 19, as he was leaving Walmart on New Haven Road after learning it was stolen out of New Britain, police said. "The vehicle fled officers at a high rate of speed and eluded their attempts at stopping it," police said. Police were able to identify McCann-Ortiz as the suspect and an arrest warrant was applied for, police said. He was arrested in August after he crashed a stolen car in Westchester, New York, police said. Working with Westchester Police, McCann-Ortiz was extradited to Connecticut by Naugatuck Police Detectives on Thursday and is charged with third-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, reckless endangerment, and engaging police in pursuit. Ford will drink all fourteen of these beers in three minutes. Photo: Toronto Police Department The way you hear Rob Ford tell it, his problems are limited to drinking too heavily on occasion and experimenting with crack — you know, just to try it. But new police documents released yesterday, which were compiled through interviews with staffers and other eyewitnesses, indicate that Rob Ford is simply, in every way imaginable, a human tornado of chaos and sleaze. He Drives Drunk Near Schools: > According to Fickel, “the mayor pulled his car over (likely at a high school, was Fickel’s recollection) and grabbed an LCBO paper bag from in front of the passenger seat which contained a fresh bottle of vodka and drank the 11 or 12 oz. mickey in one-two minutes going back and forth with a Gatorade.” He’s Racist: On one occasion, Ford “took a cab to the bar and started calling the taxi driver a ‘Paki’, threw business cards … [Read more...] about New Documents Portray Rob Ford As a Lewd, Racist, Abusive, Prostitute-Cavorting, Drunk-Driving, Pill-Popping, Cocaine-Snorting, Child-Endangering Mess of a Human Being [Updated]
