Wilton Area Pets Who Need A Home: Meet Catnip, Crowley, Sam & More
0 Pets This week's batch of adoptable pets in the Wilton area are looking for their forever homes. Will you take one home? Pet News , Patch Staff Posted Reply Want to add to your family? Look no further than these Wilton animal shelters for a pet available for adoption. Many shelters are still working to fulfill adoptions. About 6.5 million companion animals are surrendered to animal pounds each year nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. Shelters often look after other animals in search of a permanent home as well, including pigs, birds and even horses. However, only around half of all shelter animals are adopted each year, ASPCA data shows. This means millions of animals — some right here in the Wilton area — are still waiting for their forever homes. With help from our friends at Petfinder, … [Read more...] about Wilton Area Pets Who Need A Home: Meet Catnip, Crowley, Sam & More

Has New York Reached Peak Pork?
The chef Silvia Garcia-Nevado had just launched into a description of the jamón Ibérico at Bar Vinazo , a new Spanish wine bar in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood, the other night when a cook came by and tapped her on the shoulder. “Sorry to interrupt,” he said, looking anxiously at a nearby wooden stand cradling a leg of partially carved Cinco Jotas ham. “There are more orders for the Cinco. Do you want … me to slice it?” Garcia-Nevado considered this only for a moment. (The Cinco Jotas, which retails to restaurants for a little over $1,000 per leg, and which is cured in Atlantic sea salt in southwestern Spain, requires a specific carving technique to elicit its uniquely nutty, juicy flavor.) Then she shook her head no, and darted off to resume her position at the ham, where she spent much of the rest of the night wielding a long, thin carving knife as though it were a bow and she was first chair violin. Suddenly, specialty cured pork seems to be on every other menu in … [Read more...] about Has New York Reached Peak Pork?
The Newest High-End Amenity: Houses That Come With Horses
Plenty of luxury housing developments are built around glamorous perks: a manicured 18-hole golf course, a private beach club, even an exclusive on-site restaurant crowned with Michelin stars. Tucked in the coastal jungle of Western Mexico comes yet another hyper-luxurious real estate offering, this one banking on a novel perk: a pony named Karen. Karen and 48 of her equine colleagues make up the centerpiece of Mandarina, a billion-dollar residential resort gamble currently being carved into a cliffside overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. Its Mexico-based developer is betting that the palatial, celebrity-architect-designed stables erected at its heart — where the skills of two polo pros and their herd of athletic beasts are available to all residents — will help put this luxury outpost rising from the jungle on the It-people map. “With the ultraluxury market, this could be their fifth, six, seventh, 10th home — and it is touches that make the difference,” said … [Read more...] about The Newest High-End Amenity: Houses That Come With Horses
