JACKSON, Miss. — As the sun bore down around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Dale Gibson began affixing signs to the iron fence surrounding Mississippi’s only abortion clinic. “The fight is not over,” one read. In cursive script, another vowed: “This is not the end.” Wednesday was the last day the Jackson Women’s Health Organization was legally allowed to perform abortions in Mississippi. It was the last day Gibson and his fellow volunteer patient escorts gathered outside the clinic to defend a right that no longer exists in much of the country. For years, the volunteers — known as the Pink House Defenders, a nickname derived from the building’s flamingo hue — have blasted music to drown out the screams of protesters trying to dissuade patients from entering. Now, there was quiet. Before he turned to walk away from the clinic, Gibson said he “was still a little numb.” His emotions had been going in circles: “anger to despair to f--- it all to kind of back to despair.” … [Read more...] about The Mississippi abortion clinic at the center of the Supreme Court fight shuts its doors for good

The Southern Poverty Law Center, a liberal nonprofit organization that tracks "hate groups" in the United States, has remained tight-lipped about violence from pro-choice groups over the last few months. The SPLC did not respond to multiple requests for comment from Fox News Digital on whether it is monitoring the pro-choice violence or planning to add the pro-choice groups Jane’s Revenge or Ruth Sent Us to its "hate list." This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 6 JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi's only abortion clinic has been buzzing with activity in the chaotic days since the U.S. Supreme Court upended abortion rights nationwide — a case that originated in this conservative Deep South state, with this bright-pink medical facility that is closing its doors Wednesday. Physicians at Jackson Women’s Health Organization have been trying to see as many patients as possible before Thursday, when, barring an unlikely intervention by the state’s conservative Supreme Court, Mississippi will enact a law to ban most abortions. Amid stifling summer heat and humidity, clashes intensified Wednesday between anti-abortion protesters and volunteers escorting patients into the clinic, best known as the Pink House. When Dr. Cheryl Hamlin, who has traveled from Boston for five years to perform abortions, walked outside the Pink House, an … [Read more...] about Scramble as last Mississippi abortion clinic shuts its doors
‘My body, my choice’: How vaccine foes coopted an abortion rights rallying cry
In the shadow of Los Angeles’ Art Deco City Hall, musicians jammed, kids got their faces painted, and families picnicked. Amid the festivity, people waved flags, sported T-shirts and sold buttons emblazoned with a familiar slogan: “My body, my choice.” But this wasn’t an abortion rights rally, and it wasn’t a protest against the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that gutted Roe vs. Wade. It was the “Defeat the Mandates” rally, a jubilant April gathering of antivaccine activists to protest the few remaining COVID-19 guidelines, such as mask mandates on mass transit and vaccination requirements for healthcare workers. Similar scenes have played out across the country. Armed with the language of the abortion rights movement, antivaccine forces have converged with right-leaning causes to protest pandemic precautions. They’re succeeding. Vaccine opponents have appropriated “My body, my choice,” a slogan that has been linked to reproductive rights for nearly half a century, to fight … [Read more...] about ‘My body, my choice’: How vaccine foes coopted an abortion rights rallying cry
