An Orange County judge accepted a plea deal Thursday and set a sentencing date in the case of Zac Stacy, a former NFL football player who was arrested in late 2021 after he was caught beating the mother of his child in a viral video. Stacy, 31, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal mischief, according to records filed in the Ninth Judicial Circuit. In exchange for meeting requirements including no contact with the victim, his felony battery charges will be dropped. Stacy faces up to 120 days in jail and a maximum fine of $6,000, court records said. In November 2021, a video of Stacy attacking the mother of his then-infant son went viral after it was shared online by the victim. Days later, the former running back for the St. Louis Rams and New York Jets was arrested at Orlando International Airport as he exited a flight from Nashville. In the viral video shared with investigators, Stacy was seen knocking the woman to the ground and throwing her into a nearby … [Read more...] about Ex-NFL player Zac Stacy enters plea deal in domestic violence case

"The important thing that the American people need to understand, and what we are going to try to expose in a bipartisan fashion on this committee, is that the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is not just a distant threat in East Asia, or a threat to Taiwan," Gallagher told Fox News Digital on Friday. Nets Notebook: Ben Simmons to miss fourth straight game with knee soreness and swelling
Nets’ star Ben Simmons will likely miss his fourth straight game due to left knee soreness this Saturday against the Washington Wizards, head coach Jacque Vaughn said on a Zoom conference call on Friday. Simmons left Brooklyn’s Jan. 26 loss to the Detroit Pistons after sustaining what appeared to be a swipe toward the eye. The Nets later announced he would not return due to soreness in his left knee. Vaughn said Simmons received an MRI that came up clean. Reserve forward T.J. Warren is also expected to miss his fourth straight game after sustaining a left shin contusion in the loss to the Pistons. “So, Ben and TJ got on the court a little bit yesterday. They’ll probably, in about another half an hour or so, they’ll try to get on the court again,” Vaughn said from Brooklyn’s practice facility in Industry City on Friday. “You know, both are progressing. We’ll list them both as not available for Saturday’s game, and whether that is probable or questionable, we’ll see after … [Read more...] about Nets Notebook: Ben Simmons to miss fourth straight game with knee soreness and swelling
Revisiting a Scholar Unmasked by Scandal
When the Yale literary theorist Paul de Man died in 1983 , he was hailed as a brilliant teacher who had helped turn deconstruction, the critical approach originated by Jacques Derrida, into an insurgent force in American intellectual life. Four years later, though, the discovery that as a young man in Nazi-occupied Belgium de Man had written some 200 literary articles for a collaborationist newspaper — including a 1941 essay musing on the impact on European literature if the Jews were relocated to an isolated colony — landed like a bombshell. De Man’s photograph appeared in Newsweek, juxtaposed with images of Nazis on the march. And critics of deconstruction , inside and outside the academy, pounced, arguing that a school of thought long dismissed as cultish “critical terrorism” was something even more sinister. Those battles may seem like a distant memory. But now, the first full-length biography of de Man threatens to reopen the debate over his legacy, weaving together … [Read more...] about Revisiting a Scholar Unmasked by Scandal
‘We Knew’: Behind the ‘Dances With Wolves’ Star’s Sickening Sex Cult Arrest
For years, members of the Native American community say they were deeply suspicious of Nathan Chasing Horse. “It was, ‘Make sure you never leave a young woman alone with this person,’” Frances Danger, who is Muskogee and Seminole, told The Daily Beast. “It was never an exact allegation of specific things, but we knew. We knew.” Chasing Horse, who gained a modicum of fame as the character Smiles a Lot in the 1990 Kevin Costner blockbuster Dances with Wolves , now stands accused of running a cult through which he raped and trafficked multiple women and girls for two decades. Lingering fears about the former movie star’s behavior appeared to have been validated Tuesday, when police announced they had arrested Chasing Horse, 46, at his home in North Las Vegas. On Thursday, he appeared in court. Prosecutors said they expect to charge Chasing Horse with sex trafficking, sexual assault, and child abuse, among other possible counts. Chasing Horse was ordered held without bail through … [Read more...] about ‘We Knew’: Behind the ‘Dances With Wolves’ Star’s Sickening Sex Cult Arrest
Ex-prosecutor’s new book details fight over indicting Trump
NEW YORK (AP) — As the Manhattan district attorney's office again ramps up its yearslong investigation of Donald Trump, a new book by a former prosecutor who once led the probe details just how close the former president came to getting indicted — and laments friction with the new D.A. that put that plan on ice. Mark Pomerantz writes in “People vs. Donald Trump: An Inside Account” that then-District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. authorized him in December 2021 to seek Trump's indictment. After scouring various aspects of Trump's life and business, including hush-money paid on his behalf, Pomerantz writes they agreed on a case involving allegations that Trump falsified business records by inflating the value of assets on financial statements he provided lenders. Vance was leaving office within weeks, but expressed confidence that his successor, Alvin Bragg, would agree with his assessment and see the case through, Pomerantz writes. But Bragg and his team had other ideas, expressing … [Read more...] about Ex-prosecutor’s new book details fight over indicting Trump
