The Berks County Detention Center, controlled by Berks County is one of three in the country contracted by the federal government to incarcerate young children and their families. A detention center is no place to raise children, where cases of abuse and neglect have been documented.Both, federal and state laws have determined the illegality of detaining children and their families for extended periods of time and ordered ICE to comply with their ruling. The PA Department of Health and Human Services did not renew Berks County’s Detention Center License because it violated the laws that children under the age of nine must not be detained in a secure facility. ICE and Berks County have ignored these rulings and the detention center is still operating while its license is in litigation.Gov. A Cumberland County man who was one of four teens who escaped from a New Jersey detention center in 2017 after attacking a staff member, stealing a car and breaking into two homes while on the lam pleaded guilty Thursday to multiple charges and now faces up to 18 years in state prison, authorities said. Michael Huggins, 20, of Bridgeton, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree burglary and a charge of second-degree escape, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said.Huggins was 18 and being held at the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center when he escaped with three other teens on Nov. 15, 2017. They crashed the stolen car while being pursued by police and fled on foot, authorities said.The four teens broke into an unoccupied home in Egg Harbor City and stole a rifle and clothes, authorities said. Two people – a criminal defense attorney and a prosecutor – are vying for her job on the November ballot. Every day cars go up and down the Ramsey Street corridor in Fayetteville, North Carolina. At first glance, the stretch of road, lined with a number of restaurants, gas stations, family businesses and residential areas, looks like any other American street. There's even a church with a pristine white steeple across the street from a quaint animal hospital. For six women, though, the roadway and its surrounding area represents something far more disheartening and tragic. It was here that they were each allegedly raped by the same man in separate incidents between March 2006 and January 2008. Dubbed the "Ramsey Street Rapist," the man's identity proved elusive. DNA was recovered, but the samples didn't match anything in the system. Descriptions of him didn't help much either.
