Police make arrest in connection to 2 monkeys taken from Dallas Zoo
Dallas Police have arrested a man in connection to two emperor tamarin monkeys that were taken from the Dallas Zoo earlier this week. Davion Irvin, 24, was booked into the Dallas county jail on Thursday night and faces six charges of animal cruelty in relation to the incident, per a report from the Dallas Morning News. Irvin was taken to police headquarters for questioning after police received a tip that he was spotted at the Dallas World Aquarium. Earlier this week, police shared an image of Irvin with the public, believing him to have information on the missing monkeys. The two emperor tamarin monkeys, named Bella and Finn, were returned to the zoo after police located them inside a closet in an abandoned home in Lancaster on Tuesday, just 20 minutes away from the zoo. At the time, the monkeys showed no signs of injury. Members of a church located next to the home where the monkeys were found tipped off police, according to the Dallas Morning News. Other animals, … [Read more...] about Police make arrest in connection to 2 monkeys taken from Dallas Zoo
Chinese Spy Balloon Flew Over Sensitive U.S. Military Sites, Officials Say
Pentagon officials told several news outlets that a Chinese spy balloon hovering over Montana this week had a flight path that took it over several sensitive U.S. military sites—but pushed back on the idea that the device was of much value to the country in terms of additional intelligence it could gather. “We are taking all necessary steps to protect against foreign intelligence collection of sensitive information,” a defense official told NBC News . “It does not create significant value added over and above what the PRC is likely able to collect through things like satellites in low Earth orbit,” another senior official told CNN . The balloon snuck into the U.S. through Canada and was spotted near Billings Thursday. It remains unclear what sensitive sites the balloon may have been targeting—though the state is home to Malmstrom Air Force Base, which houses at least 150 nuclear missile silos. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, who was in the Philippines when news of … [Read more...] about Chinese Spy Balloon Flew Over Sensitive U.S. Military Sites, Officials Say
Spanish court: Amazon violated labor law with delivery app
MADRID (AP) — A Spanish court has ruled that Amazon broke labor laws by forcing more than 2,000 delivery drivers to use an app that the company controlled for scheduling work and payments and requiring them to use their own cars and cellphones on the job. Amazon could not treat workers using its Flex app as self-employed because the e-commerce giant's Spanish subsidiary “assumes the authority to make all decisions regarding the service, setting the conditions of execution and remuneration, and the circumstances of the day, time and duration” of labor, according to the Madrid labor court's decision released Friday. Amazon stopped using the Flex app in Spain in 2021. Friday's ruling is the result of a lawsuit brought by Spain’s social security body following a 2019 labor inspection at an Amazon facility. The government agency is seeking to recoup payments that it says Amazon should have made on behalf of the drivers. Amazon has long argued that Flex was an intermediary … [Read more...] about Spanish court: Amazon violated labor law with delivery app
‘We Knew’: Behind the ‘Dances With Wolves’ Star’s Sickening Sex Cult Arrest
For years, members of the Native American community say they were deeply suspicious of Nathan Chasing Horse. “It was, ‘Make sure you never leave a young woman alone with this person,’” Frances Danger, who is Muskogee and Seminole, told The Daily Beast. “It was never an exact allegation of specific things, but we knew. We knew.” Chasing Horse, who gained a modicum of fame as the character Smiles a Lot in the 1990 Kevin Costner blockbuster Dances with Wolves , now stands accused of running a cult through which he raped and trafficked multiple women and girls for two decades. Lingering fears about the former movie star’s behavior appeared to have been validated Tuesday, when police announced they had arrested Chasing Horse, 46, at his home in North Las Vegas. On Thursday, he appeared in court. Prosecutors said they expect to charge Chasing Horse with sex trafficking, sexual assault, and child abuse, among other possible counts. Chasing Horse was ordered held without bail through … [Read more...] about ‘We Knew’: Behind the ‘Dances With Wolves’ Star’s Sickening Sex Cult Arrest
San Francisco police seek man who fired ‘possible blanks’ in synagogue
A man stepped inside a Jewish synagogue in San Francisco on Wednesday night and made a statement before pulling out a handgun and firing off "possible blanks," officials said Friday morning. The description of the man in this incident is similar to the one of a man who reportedly brandished a gun at a local theater Tuesday night, the San Francisco Police Department said in a news release. "Based on these recent reports, which appear to be unrelated, the subject’s description is similar and is possibly the same individual," police said. "Officers are searching for this subject." Police said a man entered the Schneerson Center at 2655 Balboa St. at about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday when a group was gathered. After firing several shots, he fled the synagogue, police said. Police were called the next morning about the incident, and just before 9:30 a.m., officers visited the synagogue, where they found "expended casings that were fired, which are being investigated as possible … [Read more...] about San Francisco police seek man who fired ‘possible blanks’ in synagogue
