One person was killed and three were injured by gunfire after a fight broke out in the parking lot of a gym in the East Bay early Thursday morning, officials aid. The shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. at a 24 Hour Fitness on Lone Tree Way in Brentwood, Lt. Walter O’Grodnick, a spokesperson for the Brentwood Police Department, told SFGATE. The argument started between several people on or near the gym's basketball court and moved outside onto the parking lot, where at least two people exchanged gunfire, O'Grodnick said. When police arrived on scene, they found that one man in his 20s had died from a gunshot wound, O'Grodnick said. Police later learned that three other people who were wounded in the shooting took themselves to local hospitals. "We have a suspect detained but have yet to determine their involvement," he said. Row boat capsizes in Indian river; 3 dead, 16 missing
LUCKNOW, India (AP) — A large row boat taking villagers to a festival capsized in a flooded river in northern India on Thursday, leaving at least three people dead and 16 others missing, police said. A strong wind rocked the boat, which was carrying about 30 people, police officer Mohammed Nisar said. Some passengers were able to swim to safety, he said. Rescuers recovered three bodies. Hopes of finding the missing alive were fading as darkness approached, he said. The villagers were traveling to a nearby village in Banda district of Uttar Pradesh state to celebrate a Hindu festival. The area is about 250 kilometers (160 miles) southwest of Lucknow, the state capital. Heavy rains have caused floods and landslides in northern India during the June-September monsoon season.
