Hundreds of students across two universities in Beijing staged anti-Chinese coronavirus lockdown protests on Monday and Tuesday this week, one day before Beijing’s top health official was fired on Wednesday for “serious violations of discipline and laws.” “Hundreds of students at the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and at Beijing Normal University (Beishida) gathered to show their displeasure with current restrictions on their movements,” Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported on May 25. “The rally was followed by a similar gathering at Beishida on Tuesday [May 24],” according to RFA, which is a U.S. government-funded broadcaster. Memorial Day Weekend Travel Expected To Be Busiest Since 2019 As Gas Prices Remain At Record High
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Memorial Day Weekend kicks off Friday, and it’s expected to be the busiest for travel since 2019 – but it will come at a cost. Gas prices in the Philadelphia area are still causing pain at the pump. In Pennsylvania, the average is around $4.87 a gallon. In South Jersey, it’s $4.72 and in Delaware gas is $4.61 for a gallon of regular. TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) – The number of Florida hospital inpatients with COVID-19 has increased nearly 17 percent this week, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The data showed 2,352 inpatients with COVID-19, up from 2,018 in a Monday count. Also, the data showed 212 COVID-19 patients in intensive-care units, up from 158 on Monday. Numbers of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations have steadily increased in recent weeks, as variants of the coronavirus have developed and spread.
