Orange County Now Meets 2 Key Metrics To Move From Purple Tier Into Red Tier
SANTA ANA (CBSLA) — Orange County was closer to moving out of the purple tier of the state’s coronavirus monitoring system Tuesday, as the weekly update from the state showed that it meets key criteria to enter the red tier. The county’s test positivity rate improved from 7.8% last week to 5.4% Tuesday, and the adjusted case rate per 100,000 on a seven-day average with a seven-day lag improved from 20.7 to 11.9. The Health Equity Quartile Positivity Rate, which reflects the rates in lower-income and minority neighborhood hot spots, improved from 10.7% to 7%. Under the red tier, more businesses and organizations would be able to reopen. Retail stores could allow half capacity inside instead of 25%, and museums, zoos and aquariums could reopen for indoor activities at 25% capacity. Also, movie theaters, gyms and restaurants could open indoors at 25% capacity. On Tuesday, the county reported 250 new COVID-19 cases and no additional fatalities. Hospitalizations in the county also continued a downward trend. On Tuesday, the number of people hospitalized with coronavirus dropped from 556 to 538. The number of coronavirus patients in intensive care also decreased, dropping from 179 to 152, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency. The county has 18.9% of its ICU beds available and 61% of its ventilators. I-75 Modernization Project In Oakland County Resumes Friday With Weekend Closure
(CBS DETROIT) – Weather permitting, the rebuilding of I-75 in Oakland County resumes on Friday, Feb. 26, with a freeway closure for bridge demolition. Beginning at 11 p.m. on Friday, both directions of I-75 will be closed between 8 Mile Road and I-696. I-75 will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. Monday, March 1, with two lanes open in each direction from just south of 8 Mile Road to just north of 13 Mile Road. Prior to the freeway closure, crews will begin closing ramps at 9 p.m. and start freeway lane closures at 10 p.m. All ramps to northbound I-75 will be closed from Davison Freeway to 9 Mile Road. All ramps to southbound I-75 will be closed from 14 Mile to 9 Mile roads. Southbound I-75 traffic will use westbound I-696 to southbound M-1, then eastbound 8 Mile Road back to southbound I-75. In addition to the freeway closure, I-75 will have one lane open in each direction between I-696 and 14 Mile Road over the weekend. Beginning Monday, March 1, the following ramp closures will be in place until the end of the 2021 construction season. The Eastbound and westbound I-696 ramps to southbound I-75, All entrance and exit ramps along southbound I-75 from south of I-696 to 8 Mile Road. In addition, southbound I-75 traffic will be shifted onto the northbound lanes in the vicinity of 13 Mile Road. (KDKA/AP) — The Butler County Republican Committee of Pennsylvania voted to censure Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) over his vote to convict former President Donald Trump during his second impeachment trial. “The BCRC considers his votes to be in blatant violation of the U.S. Constitution and the Rule of Law,” the committee said in an email. TUSTIN (CBSLA) — As Orange County’s COVID-19 metrics continued to move closer to the less-restrictive red tier Wednesday, restaurant workers began to prepare for the possibility of indoor dining returning. Orange County restaurant owners hope that lower COVID case numbers are a sign that the county will be moving from the most-restrictive purple to the red tier in the coming weeks. (credit: CBSLA) At Christakis Greek Cuisine restaurant in Tustin, staff and customers were counting down the days until the dining room can reopen for business. The tables in the dining room have been sitting empty since November, but that’s expected to change soon. “We’re excited that there’s some movement hopefully,” said one customer. Under the red tier, restaurants would be permitted to reopen indoors at 25 percent capacity. “I’m looking forward to that,” said customer Angel Carrzaco. “So hopefully, knock on wood, we’re almost there.” Meanwhile, all retail would be allowed to double the current capacity, increasing to 50 percent. People would be able to work out at gyms with at 10 percent capacity and museums, zoos and aquariums could reopen at 25 percent capacity.
