Michael Kopech tosses 6 no-hit innings and strikes out a career-high 11 in the Chicago White Sox’s 2-0 against the Detroit Tigers
Michael Kopech made his case for another inning. The Chicago White Sox starter had not allowed a hit and struck out a career-high 11 through six stellar frames Friday against the Detroit Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field. He did not get his wish. The Sox turned to Reynaldo López for the seventh. “I thought I had a pretty decent chance, but they didn’t want that to happen,” Kopech said. “I’m at a point in the season where I’ve thrown a lot more innings than I did last year, so they want to rest me and make sure I’m healthy here for the next one.” The team’s no-hit bid ended when Javier Báez led off the seventh with a single to right-center. The Sox didn’t get the no-no but they did get a victory. Andrew Vaughn broke a scoreless tie with a two-out, two-run single in the seventh, and the bullpen kept the Tigers off the scoreboard for a 2-0 win. “That’s as far as he should have gone,” manager Tony La Russa said of Kopech. “But if you think I’m old school, I’m really new … [Read more...] about Michael Kopech tosses 6 no-hit innings and strikes out a career-high 11 in the Chicago White Sox’s 2-0 against the Detroit Tigers
Congress Passes $700 Billion ‘Inflation Reduction’ Act
The House on Friday passed the $700 billion Inflation Reduction Act, which, unlike its moniker, would not reduce inflation, and instead spends hundreds of billions of dollars on climate change and Obamacare programs. The House passed the legislation along partisan lines, 220-207. The vote featured no Democrats voting against the bill and no Republicans voting for the bill. This includes Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME), a swing district Democrat who voted against the American Rescue Plan and the Build Back Better Act. Breitbart News reported on Thursday that House Republican leadership would whip Republicans against the legislation to ensure that zero Republicans vote for the bill. Since the legislation uses budgetary reconciliation, Republicans cannot stop Democrats from passing the bill; however, one senior House Republican staffer explained that they plan on making Democrats “own” the bill, which includes highlighting the deleterious effects of the bill. The legislation would: … [Read more...] about Congress Passes $700 Billion ‘Inflation Reduction’ Act

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 9 NEW YORK (AP) — Capping an extraordinary week in Donald Trump’s post-presidency, a New York judge ordered Friday that his company and its longtime finance chief stand trial in the fall on tax fraud charges stemming from a long-running criminal investigation into Trump’s business practices. Manhattan Judge Juan Manuel Merchan scheduled jury selection for Oct. 24 in the case, which involves allegations the Trump Organization gave CFO Allen Weisselberg more than $1.7 million in off-the-books compensation, including rent, car payments and school tuition. Lawyers at a hearing Friday suggested the trial could last several months. Merchan denied requests by Weisselberg’s lawyers and the Trump Organization to throw out the case, though he did drop one criminal tax fraud count against the company citing the statute of limitations.
