AUBURN (CBS13) — On a sunny Friday at the North Fork of the American River at the Auburn State Recreation Area, the water was moving quickly, and it was cold. Warning signs were posted for visitors about the potential dangers of getting in the water this time of year due to low temperatures. “River Deadly Cold” one sign read; another sign, “Stay Out, Stay Alive.” The warnings are in place this time of year as snow melt from the Sierra runs into the American River, dropping temperatures into the 30s, 40s, and low 50s. Visitors were near it, soaking in the sights and sounds, but still cautious. Philadelphia Weather: Heat Advisory In Effect As Temperatures Hit Record Highs On Saturday
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — With record high temperatures in the Philadelphia region, a Heat Advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. for parts of southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The high on Saturday will hit 97 degrees, which breaks the record of 95 set in 1934. Today is also the hottest day since Aug. 12, 2021. Make sure you find ways to stay hydrated on Saturday. Limit your time outdoors, and wear loose clothes as temperatures will feel like 100. BALTIMORE (WJZ) — After nearly tying a record high in Baltimore on Saturday, temperatures on Sunday will again be hot—but not quite as high. Afternoon highs will reach around 90 degrees with increasing clouds by afternoon. Despite Warm Temps, Cold Water Poses Hypothermia Risk At Minnesota Lakes Over Memorial Day Weekend
LAKE MINNETONKA, Minn. (WCCO) – Despite summer-like temperatures forecasted for the Memorial Day weekend, water temperatures in Minnesota lakes will be significantly colder. Water at Lake Minnetonka registered at 58 degrees on Thursday, according to Hennepin County Water Patrol. “Some of the risks are definitely hypothermia,” said Sgt. Texas homeless population seeks refuge amid bone-chilling temperatures
As bone-chilling temperatures have left thousands of people across Texas stuck indoors without power and heat , advocates for the homeless have taken to the streets to find those unable to take or find refuge. Mary O'Connor, a volunteer with the nonprofit organization OurCalling in Dallas, said she has driven through snow and ice looking for homeless people in need of shelter. "We've convinced many to come in with us," O'Connor said. "We're letting them know that their lives are worth it, and we want to get them to safety because it's dangerously cold outside." Many Texans face fallout from the massive winter storm, like widespread power outages, transportation problems and food shortages; homeless people are among the state's most vulnerable population even in good weather, but they have become particularly vulnerable as the deep freeze persists, according to advocates. Denver Weather: Wet Weather And Cooler Temperatures Coming
DENVER (CBS4) – We kicked off the work week with warm temperatures and a few thunderstorms in eastern Colorado. We will continue to be warm with above average temperatures all week, until we get to Friday. That’s when the major change is potentially set to arrive! Until then, we see the chance for afternoon thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the 70s and 80s for the Front Range. We warm up even more on Thursday ahead of a cold front.
