SILVER SPRINGS, Md. (CW44 News At 10 | CNN) — The US Food and Drug Administration announced plans Wednesday to work with foreign formula manufacturers to allow them to permanently sell their products in the United States. “The need to diversify and strengthen the U.S. infant formula supply is more important than ever. The recent shutdown of a major infant formula plant, compounded by unforeseen natural weather events, has shown just how vulnerable the supply chain has become,” FDA Commissioner Dr. Robert Califf and Susan Mayne, director of the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, said in a statement. Report: ‘The Flash’ Star Michael Shannon Movie Production Quits Arkansas in Protest over Abortion Trigger Law
A movie production directed by Oscar-nominated actor Michael Shannon has reportedly quit Arkansas in protest over the state’s abortion trigger law that took effect following the Supreme Court’s historic reversal of Roe v. Wade . Michael Shannon was set to film his directorial debut Eric Larue in Arkansas, but the production has left the state in favor of North Carolina, according to a report from Deadline. The report cited the reason as Arkansas’ Act 180 of 2019 that took almost immediate effect following the high court’s ruling. Under Act 180, the state has banned all abortions except in cases where the mother’s life is in danger. Physicians performing abortions will face criminal prosecution but women seeking abortions won’t. Like many states, Arkansas offers film and TV tax incentives designed to lure productions to the state, thus boosting employment and spending. North Carolina also offers incentives. Eric Larue, which is based on a play by Brett Neveu, takes … [Read more...] about Report: ‘The Flash’ Star Michael Shannon Movie Production Quits Arkansas in Protest over Abortion Trigger Law

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 21 PAMPLONA, Spain (AP) — Thousands of revelers erupted in celebration Wednesday as the traditional “chupinazo” firework was ignited to start the San Fermín bull-run festival in the Spanish city of Pamplona, ending a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. Rain did nothing to dampen the atmosphere as crowds, nearly all dressed in the traditional garb of white trousers and shirt with red sash and neckerchief, crammed the tiny town hall square for the noon event. After the firework exploded, the revelers continued spraying each other with red wine. The highlight of the nine-day festival is the early morning “encierros,” or bull runs, starting on Thursday, when thousands of thrill seekers scramble like mad to avoid six bulls as they charge along a winding, cobblestoned … [Read more...] about Spain’s famous Bull Run festival back after 2-year hiatus
Carlson: Is There a Connection Between Prescription Drugs, Mass Shootings?
On Tuesday, FNC host Tucker Carlson opened his program with a monologue reacting to the Highland Park, IL shooting by criticizing the anticipated Democrat and media reactions. However, he said there was a reluctance to consider a possible connection between prescription drugs and shootings like Highland Park. Transcript as follows: CARLSON: Amazingly, it was just over a week ago that Joe Biden singlehandedly ended gun violence in the United States. How did you miss that? Well, you probably were distracted by all the other amazing things Joe Biden is doing, like making air travel more efficient and winning the war in Ukraine. So, you probably weren’t paying attention on June 25th when a law called the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act was signed and it, true to its name, was, in fact, bipartisan. Fashionably liberal Republicans like John Cornyn helped write it. So, the question is, will it live up to the second half? Will it make communities safer? Emphatically yes, said Joe … [Read more...] about Carlson: Is There a Connection Between Prescription Drugs, Mass Shootings?
Opinion: The SEC alone can’t police billionaire CEOs like Elon Musk
Charles K. Whitehead is the Myron C. Taylor Alumni Professor of Business Law at Cornell University and the founding director of the Law, Technology & Entrepreneurship program at Cornell Tech. The opinions expressed in this commentary are his own. In the startup world, pushing regulatory limits to promote a new business is often seen as "entrepreneurial" or "disruptive." But breaking securities laws, as Elon Musk has allegedly done, is something different. It's well known that Musk has a strained history with the Securities and Exchange Commission. In 2018, the SEC alleged that Musk made "false and misleading" claims about taking Tesla private. Among other things, Musk agreed in a settlement with the SEC to pay a $20 million fine and step down as Tesla's chairman for three years. But the settlement does not seem to have deterred Musk from flouting the rules again. Earlier this year, Musk waited 21 days to publicly disclose he had acquired … [Read more...] about Opinion: The SEC alone can’t police billionaire CEOs like Elon Musk
Elon Musk: ‘I do not respect the SEC’
New York (CNN Business) Elon Musk settled securities fraud charges brought against him by the Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this year, but he is not done deriding the agency. "I want to be clear: I do not respect the SEC," he told Lesley Stahl during an interview with CBS' "60 Minutes," which aired Sunday. Musk said he is abiding by the terms of his settlement deal "because I respect the justice system." But he reiterated that there is no love lost between him and the SEC. Musk and Tesla, the electric car company he runs, reached separate $20 million deals with the agency in September to settle securities fraud charges lodged against Musk that stemmed from statements he made on Twitter. As part of the agreement, Tesla said it would firm up its oversight of Musk's social media use by pre-approving posts that may contain information that is "material" to Tesla's shareholders. But Musk, who has long been known for his liberal and … [Read more...] about Elon Musk: ‘I do not respect the SEC’
