George Washington University (GWU) and Portland State University (PSU) revised their policing policies to allow officers to carry firearms while on patrol, sources told the Daily Caller News Foundation. The policy changes come as multiple universities across the country revise their policing standards after activists demanded reforms to restrict departments after George Floyd’s death in 2020. “When criminals and other ne’er-do-wells see armed officers on campus or near campus they’re going to think twice, and they do think twice, about committing crimes on campuses,” Cully Stimson, Edwin Meese III Center deputy director at the Heritage Foundation, told the DCNF. Robert J. Zimmer, a mathematician who as president of the University of Chicago championed diversity not only quantitatively, in the recruitment of students and faculty, but also by protecting free expression on campus with a protocol that was later embraced by dozens of colleges across the country, died on Tuesday at his home in Chicago. He was 75. His wife, Shadi Bartsch-Zimmer, a classics professor at the university, said the cause was glioblastoma multiforme, a virulent form of brain cancer. Mr. Zimmer, who presided over the university from 2006 to 2021, was instrumental in shepherding what became known as the Chicago Principles , a set of guidelines recommended by the Committee on Free Expression, a faculty group he appointed in 2014. Professor Shellyne Rodriguez hurled expletives toward pro-life students at Hunter College in Manhattan, telling them that it is “violent” to be opposed to women killing their unborn children, before shoving the materials on their table to the ground. “This is bullshit. A Michigan State University (MSU) professor allegedly forced her 600 students to pay a $99 membership fee to join a leftist organization she allegedly controlled called The Rebellion Community, which supported Planned Parenthood amongst other causes, as a condition of participation in her class, according to a lawsuit filed by Alliance Defending Freedom.
