Though not hosting his primetime program, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly called into “The O’Reilly Factor” to deliver a scathing indictment of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, saying de Blasio should resign, and has “disgraced” the NYC mayoral office. O’Reilly also told guest host Greg Gutfeld Monday night that the relatively new mayor is “incompetent,” adding that de Blasio has espoused an “anti-police” sentiment his entire career. O’REILLY: “Bill de Blasio, as I said, is incompetent. He was elected in an election in New York City that few people voted. He was a machine politician, and he is an anti-police individual. Now he is in trouble. Now he is trying to backtrack. But he has been anti-police his whole career. Who is his best friend? Al Sharpton. Al Sharpton. A racial provocateur, an anti-cop individual. He is his best friend. That says it all.” “De Blasio is proud that he told his teenage son that he may face ‘dangers’ when interacting with the NYPD. What type of … [Read more...] about O’Reilly Rips De Blasio: He ‘Should Resign Today,’ ‘Has Disgraced The Office Of Mayor’ [VIDEO]

Giuliani Slams De Blasio For Putting Race At Center Of Eric Garner Case [VIDEO]
New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio made race a central theme of his statement on the grand jury’s decision not to indict anyone in the death of Eric Garner. After speaking about the case, De Blasio said, “We’re not just dealing with a problem in 2014, we’re not dealing with years of racism leading up to it, or decades or racism, we are dealing with centuries of racism that have brought us to this day. That is how profound the crisis is.” Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani responded to De Blasio’s comments Thursday morning on “Fox and Friends.” “This helps to create this atmosphere of protest and sometimes even violence,” Giuliani said. “First of all there was no racism in this case. There’s no indication if this man were a white man and resisting arrest, at that same size, the same thing would happen.” “If I recall correctly,” he continued, “There was an African-American sergeant on the scene, observing, in charge of the entire situation. Never did anything to stop it. … [Read more...] about Giuliani Slams De Blasio For Putting Race At Center Of Eric Garner Case [VIDEO]
Nycha Has a New Plan to Clean Up Rats, Mold and Lead Paint: Bring in Private Landlords
[ What you need to know to start your day: Get New York Today in your inbox . ] The New York City Housing Authority is considering a plan to hand over the day-to-day management of 62,000 apartments to developers who would renovate and make repairs to the units, effectively privatizing the operation of more than a third of the stock in the nation’s largest public housing system . The authority may also sell unused air rights and speed up a plan to allow developers to build market-rate apartment buildings on land it is underusing at its housing complexes, according to details of the plan obtained by The New York Times. These aggressive measures would preserve low rents through federal subsidies and would generate at least $15 billion worth of urgently needed repairs . The plan comes as Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has made affordable housing the cornerstone of his administration, is under intense pressure to overhaul the agency. In June, federal prosecutors accused the … [Read more...] about Nycha Has a New Plan to Clean Up Rats, Mold and Lead Paint: Bring in Private Landlords
Judge Rejects Deal to Overhaul City’s Public Housing
[What you need to know to start your day: Get New York Today in your inbox .] A federal judge rejected a sweeping settlement on Wednesday that would have appointed a monitor to oversee the troubled New York City Housing Authority and required the city to pump at least $1.2 billion into repairs. The judge, William H. Pauley III, also strongly suggested that the federal government should take over the authority instead. In a scathing opinion, Judge Pauley deplored the “breathtaking scope” of the squalid living conditions in the city’s public housing complexes. He rebuked the city for its mismanagement of the agency, and said the federal government had abdicated its legal responsibility to overhaul the nation’s largest stock of public housing that is home to about 400,000 vulnerable New Yorkers. The unexpected ruling threw the future of the Housing Authority into doubt and unraveled a deal that Mayor Bill de Blasio had staked his reputation on as a champion of public … [Read more...] about Judge Rejects Deal to Overhaul City’s Public Housing

A steep drop in gang violence last year drove shootings in New York City to the lowest number in at least a quarter-century, Police Department data shows, a result of what police officials say has been a focus on gang takedowns and targeted arrests in some of the city’s roughest neighborhoods. The internal police data, obtained by The New York Times, paints a detailed portrait of the motives, locations and circumstances behind murders and shootings for the last two years. Gang-related shootings fell to 412 in 2016, from 560 the year before, according to the data, which tracked shootings and murders through Dec. 28 of each year. Gang-related killings dropped to 79 in 2016, from 129 in 2015. Those drop-offs helped push citywide shootings to a new low of 998 by year’s end, police officials said, down from 1,138 in 2015. Murders also fell, to 335 from 352 the year before. The New York City police commissioner, James P. Wealthy New Yorkers Fight To Keep Homeless Out Of Their Liberal Neighborhood
Wealthy New Yorkers are furious that Mayor Bill de Blasio plans to open a homeless shelter in their ritzy Manhattan neighborhood. Dozens of wealthy residents packed into a community meeting to voice their anger over the decision to move 150 homeless men into the former Park Savoy Hotel, NY1 reports . The residents are concerned that the move will increase crime and decrease property values in their neighborhood on “billionaires’ row.” “How are these poor people, whose only livelihood is in one bag, deal with a $6 coffee and a $15,000 dress on the windows of Fifth Avenue?” asked one resident, a middle-aged man with a foreign accent. “Aren’t we breeding crime by doing this?” he asked, earning applause from the audience. Some residents have formed a group, the West 58th Street Coalition, to oppose the homeless shelter in their neighborhood, CBS2 reports . CBS2 identified the coalition’s leader as Suzanne Silverstein, a fashion executive who is the president of upscale women’s … [Read more...] about Wealthy New Yorkers Fight To Keep Homeless Out Of Their Liberal Neighborhood
