Born Homeless When he left the hospital, he joined 11,233 other children under 6 living in New York City’s shelter system. By NIKITA STEWART and GABRIELLA ANGOTTI-JONES OCT. 30, 2018 Baby Antonio was born homeless. He arrived at 12:29 a.m. on a warm Thursday in August. Jessica Bliss Nashville Tennessean Published 9:19 AM EDT Oct 18, 2018 It was late in the evening, and Emily Long hadn't felt her baby move for a few hours. She woke up her husband, Joel, in bed, and together they placed their hands on her belly, searching for signs of life. They found nothing. They were admitted to St. Thomas Midtown in Nashville a couple of hours later. Just after midnight, doctors confirmed the worst — there was no heartbeat. Emily and Joel Long lost their baby girl on June 5. Afterward, they faced the impossible task of saying goodbye. In such heartbreaking circumstances, parents may only get a few hours with their stillborn baby. Hardly enough time. But, for the Longs, the medical staff at St. Thomas Midtown suggested another way. The hospital owned a Cuddle Cot, a device that when laid underneath the … [Read more...] about Cuddle Cot gives grieving parents precious extra days with stillborn baby
Baby Lilah's parents were told that her birth defect was incompatible with life, but they chose to carry her to term so that she could save the life of someone else. (SWNS) A grief-stricken couple whose daughter lived for just nine days say they are proud that her tiny organs were able to help save the life of another baby. Jessica and Sampson Shnurman were heartbroken when an ultrasound at 13-weeks showed their unborn child had a large fluid filled cyst at the top of her spine. Doctors told the couple their daughter, Lilah, was incompatible with life as the birth defect was preventing her brain stem from developing as it should. Jessica, 30, a surgical nurse, and Sampson, 31, a contractor, continued the pregnancy to term but asked doctors if Lilah might be a suitable candidate for organ donation. GEORGIA JURY AWARDS $31M OVER BOY'S BOTCHED CIRCUMCISION The parents, who also have a son, Abel, aged 2, welcomed 6 lbs., 5-oz. baby Lilah on August 29, and say seeing her open … [Read more...] about Baby who lived just 9 days saves another through organ donation
