COLUMBUS, Ohio -- There have been 80 occasions in which an Ohio State player has played in a Super Bowl.When Super Bowl LIII kicks off on Sunday that number will be increased to 88, covering 57 Buckeyes. OSU is tied for the third-most players in this year’s Super Bowl with three. The Big Ten as a conference is second to the SEC with 20 players.Each of the former Buckeyes is from the Jim Tressel era and are three of 14 active NFL players who played for Tressel. Despite several more recent Buckeyes reaching the conference championship, no players from the Urban Meyer era are on either roster.Jake McQuaide, Los Angeles Rams McQuaide is a Cincinnati, Ohio native in his eighth NFL season, all with the Rams in St. Louis and Los Angeles as a long snapper. In his two seasons as the quarterbacks coach at Ohio State, being promoted into the offensive coordinator role in 2018 after sharing the position with Kevin Wilson in 2017 and now the 25th head coach in school history, quarterbacks have been provided for Day in J.T. Barrett and Dwayne Haskins. Day has still been integral to each quarterback’s success over the past two seasons: with Barrett recording a career high in passing yards, touchdowns and completion percentage in 2017 and Haskins becoming Ohio State’s first Heisman finalist since 2006. Starting this fall, a weekly mailbag run by yours truly will be published Wednesdays, addressing questions on the latest developments surrounding the Trojans’ season. It should be a useful way to expound on storylines that might not appear in the daily newspaper. The Trojans are currently midway through a mock game week, about 10 days before the season opener against UNLV. Training camp ended last week with the most pressing issue of the preseason unsettled. No starting quarterback has been named, a three-way battle between JT Daniels, Matt Fink and Jack Sears that will continue until next week.
