Nikki Gaskins , Patch Staff Posted | Updated Reply MANATEE COUNTY, FL — After recent engineering investigations revealed structural concerns in the county parking garage, officials said they are taking steps to minimize potential problems down the road. “The garage is safe to park in,” County Administrator Scott Hopes said. “The engineering studies have confirmed that.” Those studies also confirmed that the concrete and steel parking garage—built in the late 1980s in a very moist, humid environment—has begun to weaken from the inside out, county officials said. “There had perhaps been a period of deferred maintenance,” he explained. Deb Belt , Patch Staff Posted Reply MANATEE COUNTY, FL — After more than a week of cleanup and repair efforts due to the impact of Hurricane Ian, Manatee County’s beaches are again open, county official said Friday. A majority of the county's preserves and parks are also open. Anna Maria Bayfront Park, Manatee Beach, Palma Sola Causeway Park and Coquina Beaches were open as of noon Friday. All of Manatee County's preserves are open. Visitors can expect some isolated trail closures in the Duette and Rye Preserves due to high water and debris, a county news release said. Tiffany Razzano , Patch Staff Posted Reply BRADENTON, FL — The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 28-year-old man whose body was found outside Winn Dixie at 1910 53rd Ave E. in Bradenton. Deputies responded to the grocery store Thursday around 6:30 p.m. and found the man, who had been shot, inside a parked vehicle, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. They learned that the shooting happened about one mile away in the 6100 block of 10th Street E. Another man brought the victim to the parking lot before notifying law enforcement. The shooting happened around 1:50 a.m. in the parking lot of the Paddy Wagon Irish Pub, 5320 45th Street E. The suspect is described as a white man with a stocky build, medium-length brown hair, a beard and glasses, the sheriff’s office said.
