TV anchor Gayle King and basketball icon Charles Barkley are seeking to finalize a deal that will put them both in a CNN primetime slot. The deal will reportedly have the two celebrities lead a primetime show jointly for one hour each week on the fledgling network. Per Variety : The Wall Street Journal previously reported that a deal involving King was nearing completion, but it has been an open secret in TV-news circles that CNN has been courting both personalities — and others like them — for some time. CBS News declined to offer immediate comment on expectations it had for King, who is also the center of its ‘CBS Mornings’ on weekdays — a critical generator of ad dolls for the Paramount Global news-and-stations division. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, which has relied on Barkley for years as a host of its popular ‘Inside the NBA,’ could not be reached for immediate comment. Warner Bros. Discovery also owns CNN. “We don’t have anything set in … [Read more...] about Gayle King, Charles Barkley Seek to Finalize Deal for CNN Prime Time

Chiefsaholic, the Fan Who Dressed as a Wolf, Is Said to Be on the Lam
Before this year’s Super Bowl, the Kansas City football superfan known as Chiefsaholic was a source of fascination in the sports world. How, people wondered, did a man known for wearing a wolf mask to games and placing large bets end up in jail on charges that he robbed a bank in Tulsa, Okla.? Now Chiefsaholic, known legally as Xaviar Babudar, is at the heart of a much simpler mystery: Where is he? Babudar, who had been released from jail while awaiting trial, failed to appear at a hearing Monday morning, according to court records. His court-ordered GPS monitor was found in a wooded area near an Academy Sports + Outdoors store in southern Tulsa with the strap cut off. Michael Lloyd, the bail bondsman who paid Babudar’s $80,000 bond to secure his release from jail last month, said the unit’s tamper alert went off around 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Lloyd went to Babudar’s hotel — though Babudar lives in the Kansas City, Mo., area, he was required to remain in Tulsa County, Okla., … [Read more...] about Chiefsaholic, the Fan Who Dressed as a Wolf, Is Said to Be on the Lam
Your NF.L. Quarterback Questions, Unanswered
No one ever wants to give away too much in the sports world. But this year’s N.F.L. off-season is carrying the misdirection to a new level. Lamar Jackson is staying in Baltimore, or he is leaving. Aaron Rodgers hadn’t heard from the Packers, or maybe they haven’t heard from him. And the rapper Meek Mill is in the ear of his friend, the Patriots owner Robert Kraft, suggesting to whom he should turn for his next quarterback. What will happen next? Don’t count on the messaging to bring any clarity. Is Lamar Jackson Moving On? Let’s start with Jackson, the Ravens star who on Monday said he wanted out of Baltimore, where he has been the starting quarterback for nearly five seasons. Jackson said in a tweet that the Ravens had “not been interested in meeting my value” on a new contract, a point some of his friends, allies and even rival players have been making for months . According to Jackson, he requested a trade on March 2, news that somehow stayed under wraps for nearly a … [Read more...] about Your NF.L. Quarterback Questions, Unanswered
Jackson-Mahomes III:
Seemingly every generation of the N.F.L. is defined by classic matchups between the league’s best quarterbacks. Their teams are often in contention for championships, but their styles of play are also indicative of the strategies in vogue at the time, from gunslinging pocket passers to game managers in love with the audible. On Monday night, fans will get to watch the latest installment of the league’s most compelling quarterback rivalry when Patrick Mahomes, 25, and the Kansas City Chiefs visit Baltimore to take on Lamar Jackson, 23, and the Ravens. It won’t look anything like those rivalries of the past, as these young quarterbacks are the archetype of athletic, run-and-gun improvisational stars who have supplanted the old pocket passers. There is a lot at stake beyond bragging rights for the Chiefs, who have won the past two matchups with the Ravens and are defending a Super Bowl title, or the Ravens, who were bounced from the playoffs after finishing last season 14-2. Both … [Read more...] about Jackson-Mahomes III:

The Sisterhood of Netball
ANDREA KIDD often gets puzzled looks when she tells people she spends her summer weekends playing netball. “I have to explain that it’s like basketball, but you can’t dribble with the ball, and our baskets have no backboards,” said Ms. Kidd, 36, a Jamaican immigrant who plays defense for Pivot, a team in the Caribbean American Netball Association ’s summer league for women, at Lincoln Terrace Park in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Asked if her height — nearly six feet — was an advantage, Ms. Kidd chuckled and shifted to her lilting Jamaican patois: “Well, some a dem tall, but dem clumsy.” A fast and often fierce game, netball is played almost exclusively by women and is popular around the world, especially in the West Indies. But it remains little known in the United States, where it began in the late 19th century as a women’s version of basketball before gaining popularity in Britain and spreading to British colonies. The summer league consists almost entirely of immigrants … [Read more...] about The Sisterhood of Netball
