We got these included in this smoke alarm/Carbon Monoxide value pack: [[ASIN:B0057R0MU4 Kidde i9060/KN-COB-B-LPM Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarm Value Pack]], and also got some extra individual CO alarms for other rooms.
I like that this doesn’t require an electrical outlet, just 3 AAA batteries. Time will tell how long the batteries last, but so far so good. The price was right. A friend who works for a property manager said they were literally putting thousands of these into their various properties. So if it’s good enough for all those people, it’s good enough for us.
Does it Work?
There’s really no way to tell how effective it is at detecting CO; with a smoke alarm, you can always simulate enough smoke to trip them, but I’m not sure how to replicate a similar test with this CO alarm. So, purely on blind faith, I assume this works as it should in that department. However, pushing the ‘test’ button works as it should.
Compact
It’s small and unobtrusive. Flashing lights are easily visible if you’re looking for them, but don’t demand any attention otherwise, just is as it should be. It’s about the size of a box of Kraft macaroni, if turned on its side; maybe a tad smaller.
Easy Install
Just a couple of screws on the mounting bracket, and then the alarm slides onto it. So it can easily be removed to change the batteries.
Bottom Line — Carbon Monoxide alarms are becoming standard, and this seems to be as good as any other we considered. Economical too. Glad to see the canaries of the world will be safe now.
