The recipes are very easy to prepare. You can have a balanced meal on the table in 30 minutes. The food tastes very good and it’s healthy. I use the index to plan a variety of menus for the week. The book already has the meals planned for you by week along with the shopping list. The recipes take the guess work out for calculating calories, carbs, etc. I am always recommending this book to people that tell me they have just been diagnosed with type II diabetes. I also advise them to check it out from the public library first to make sure they like the food.

I love the "breakfast suggestions" in the front and there are a lot of our favorite foods in here modified to be lower in carbs so that my husband can still enjoy what he loves. GREAT cookbook!

this book has many repeat recipes, with only minor changes….voila, new recipe. It tries to do gluten free, low cholesterol, low carb low calorie. low etc. It would have been better to pick one. Not all. I was not impressed that the recipes looked all that delicious.
I was eager to get the book, but after browsing it I am not so eager to use the recipes.

    Others may have different sensitivities.

..and love this book. I was recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I am physically fit but apparently have inherited the bad gene. I’m determined to not develop diabetes. That said, as soon as I got back my HgbA1C, my wife drug me straight to the bookstore. We picked out this book without any research, but I’m so glad we did! I cook a lot for myself because of our travel schedules, and I’m a novice chef. What I love about this book is that >90% of the items listed in the recipes I can find at my rural grocer. On top of that the recipes are quick and easy. Most (but not all) menus are flavorful. Most meals can be fixed in less than one hour, and if I were better in the kitchen, even less than that. I love it that I can shop for a week of meals, and I just go down the list prior to the calendar week. If I had a complaint it would be to provide a meal schedule for one person. I know how hard that is, and it might in fact be impossible. The authors however do make allowances for leftovers, and incorporate this into their recipes.
I recommend this book to anyone interested in healthy cooking, and in fact I recommend it on a daily basis to my patients.
I look forward to the 3rd edition!

the book is very nice, put I did not expect to see so much grains and high carb veggies included in the recipes. I have made a few of the recipes and even the children like them. I also love the fact that is helps with one year of meal planning!

I highly recommend this book. Not only the authors have diabetes, but they shared that there IS life to live even while having diabetes. The book also gave me an idea what to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even snacks! I find the book encouraging and I like the idea of a Dinner Club with friends. I have several friends with diabetes and some are health conscious. Now the book made me feel like I am looking forward to each new day….

This is such a great cook book, it provides a weekly shopping list as well as a daily recipe menus for a week based on the weekly shopping list. This cook book has fifty-two (52) weeks of individual weekly grocery lists and a week of differant meals that are based on those grocery lists. Just think, after a year of cooking healthy you’ll get the hang of figuring it out by yourself and wa-la.
I bought one and gave it away to what I thought was a good friend. I’ve regretted it ever since, so I bought another and an extra for a "give away" to a real friend when one comes along.

This book was a gift to myself and I have to say it is pretty incredible. I like that many of the recipes are tried and true but are deliciously better than I ever cooked them, plus there are new recipes to tempt me as well. Having complete menus planned out for a year makes diabetic cooking so much simpler and all of the nutritional information is there as well. I can see that a lot of thought and planning went into the meals. They are pleasing to the eye and palate. Many thanks to the author and chef.

I love the idea of this book! How great to have 5 healthy meals a week planned for every week of the year with a weekly shopping list! The recipes appear very tasty and I was excited to begin using the cookbook to eat healthy while simplifying my life!

But here is my beef — the actual meal plans and recipes are unworkable — the recipes vary greatly in number of servings, and the calorie counts per day are widely inconsistent. Let’s take this week, July week 2 for example. The shopping list assumes I am cooking two recipes the first day, one serving 4 and the other serving 10. The next day serves 6, 7 the next, 7 again, and then 4, with calories per meal ranging from 135 to 485. Does that sound like a good workable plan to you? I am generally cooking for 1, but I can easily divide by a consistent number (like 4). But instead, I must study each recipe and normalize the servings, having to figure out what to leave out or add to have total proper calories and nutrition, and then rebuild the whole shopping list. That is NOT a time saver or simplification. Every week is like that! It is the normal nightmare of trying to cook from any cookbook, only these recipes are not organized by type, but by day of the year. I really like the day of the year approach, but I expected the authors to actually do the normalizing and meal planning as advertised, but they didn’t. They just cut up a cookbook and put the recipes in by date.

This book could have been PERFECT with just a little one-time effort on their part. But instead, the authors left all of the effort to each and every reader, who must each individually recalculate every recipe for a consistent number of servings, figure out supplements or things to cut back on to actually make a meal, and then remake their own shopping list.

If the book is ever redone to make it a practical, workable, 365 day a year book for a set number of servings with consistent calories and exchanges permeal , I’d be the first in line to buy it. But as it is in this edition, I cannot recommend it. Just get a real cookbook.

This book has brought a rejuvenation to my task of cooking. I am a 75 year old retired teacher who has made the decision to keep a husband with dementia at home. His meals are prepared at home and since purchasing this book I look forward to shopping each week (with the list provided) in order to make new dishes. He enjoys the variety and with the smaller portions I am beginning to lose a pound or two along the way. We have placed stars next to our favorite recipes. So far his favorite is the Italian Garden Frittata. I had never used egg substitute before…or tofu. I can’t wait to try more recipes.

The book has quite a few good recipes to incllude a few Gluten Free recipes. I do not use this book as a daily recipe book even though the recipes are laid out by the days. We usually have left overs so we cannot cook a different meal everyday. I do love the book though and it gives me healthy food ideas.

I haven’t tried all the recipes yet but the one’s I have so far are great! the recipes are tasty and very satisfying. You would never know if they are healthy recipes. My family was pretty skeptical as we have tried many low carb/calorie/fat recipes, but they loved the recipes I have tried.

I have prepared many of the recipies included in the book and all were excellent. They were easy to prepare and my blood sugar average went down as long as I maintained portion control. I have not followed the calendar approach but just picked those recepies that I thought fit my tastes for the day.

I bought this book because I needed actual recipes beside theories.and education on the subject. With one years worth of recipes I can start to be creative with my own and self sufficient. This book does that..

I have the earlier edition of this cookbook and love it. This one has many of the same recipes, but also a bunch of new ones. Every recipe I have tried has been good. I am glad that the recipes are easy to follow and diabetic friendly. I’m always on the search for diabetic friendly, easy to prepare, tasty recipes. This book meets all of those requirements.

I have the first edition of this cookbook and like it so much I bought this second edition for the updates. I have made numerous recipes in this edition already. I love the layout of the book, done in a week by week calendar format, the book lays out menu plans and even provides grocery lists. For working people and those who don’t have the time or inclination to create a weeklong detailed menu for their family, this is a real time and hassle saver. I have made approx. 120 of the recipes in this and the first edition. They all turned out to be big hits with both myself and my family. Every recipe has been successful, yet I am not a great cook. The recipes are short, concise and easy, yet dramatically flavorful.
This cookbook is for diabetics, I am not diabetic, nor is anyone in my household. Someone told me about this cookbook (the 1st edition) a few years ago and noted that eating a diet lower in sugars/simple carbs can benefit everyone looking to eat healthy. So, I tried this cookbook. I use this more often than any other cookbook I own because the recipes lend themselves to everday meals!
