At their public meeting, the board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution of intent for the Missoula County Housing Action Plan to be an issue plan of the Missoula County Growth Policy.
Missoula County has faced housing affordability challenges for over a decade, but in recent years a housing shortage and growing population have exacerbated the problem. Home prices and rents have increased dramatically more than incomes, and rental vacancy rates have decreased to record lows. An undersupply of around 2,400 housing units in Missoula County also contributes to the issue.
The actions in Missoula County’s Housing Action Plan: Breaking Ground fall under three broad goals:
- Use the County’s existing toolkit — including zoning, infrastructure and use of county lands — to increase the housing supply
- Provide more funding for programs to help people access and stay in stable housing
- Partner with the City, housing nonprofits and developers to improve policy
The Missoula County commissioners are accepting applications for an alternate member to serve the remainder of a vacant five-year term on the Missoula Public Library Board , which runs through June 30, 2022. At that time, the alternate term will renew to a new five-year term of July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2027.
Applications are online . The deadline is 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7.
Vanessa Hammond, Shelter Attendant, Missoula Animal Control
Vanessa Hammond is a shelter attendant at Missoula Animal Control, where she does…well…everything. Between answering phones and dispatching calls, she is also in charge of online licensing and ordering supplies to keep the tails wagging.
If you adopt an animal from the shelter, she will likely be there, camera in hand, smiling from the excitement of yet another success story. During spay and neuter clinics, Vanessa can be seen managing the flow of incoming animals of all shapes and sizes with patience and care.
When needed, she assists the veterinarian with the surgeries before whisking off to update records and organize packets of paperwork to be sent home with the animals. Vanessa is a knowing and caring face for a public in need and an integral member of Missoula Animal Control’s shelter staff.
