"These options have become more popular due to the growing climate change crisis, as they will help the UK to reach its target of net-zero emissions by 2050.

"This is a great way to reduce your personal carbon footprint if you can drive but don't own or don't need your own car.

"Sometimes, public transport isn't enough, so renting a car with a guaranteed space to get to your favourite event or go shopping is the next-best eco-friendly option."

Transport for London has confirmed the capital is "full of car clubs" for residents to enjoy.

These range from traditional returnable models to flexible one-way vehicles with dedicated parking areas.

They said the scheme has the "potential to reduce car ownership" and would "inspire" the shift away from private vehicles.

According to Brighton and Hove Council, drivers could receive penalty charges for stopping in car club bays.

This keeps the scheme exclusive for vehicle owners and ensures that everyone using the scheme can access parking at all times.
