By City News Service | PUBLISHED: May 17, 2019 at 3:28 pm | UPDATED: May 17, 2019 at 3:29 pm A 27-year-old Fullerton man was sentenced Friday to more than eight years in federal prison for carrying out a string of gas station robberies in Orange and Los Angeles counties last year with a replica handgun. Gerardo Sotelo, who pleaded guilty Feb. 8, was given a 100-month term. Sotelo was arrested a year ago after robbing a gas station in Artesia, which he had also held up earlier, according to an affidavit filed by an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Under his plea agreement, Sotelo admitted the 2018 robberies of: — A Chevron gas station at 13356 South St. in Cerritos on April 4 and April 24. — A Chevron station at 16725 Pioneer Blvd. in Artesia on April 18 and May 1. — A Shell gas station at 1124 E. Chapman Ave. in Fullerton on April 24. Sotelo’s also has had convictions for taking a car without permission in 2009, second-degree robbery in 2011, misdemeanor theft in 2012, and second-degree burglary in 2012, according to court records.
