Nathan J. Fish Arizona Republic Published 5:43 PM EDT May 17, 2019 This weekend’s weather will be too nice to spend working, so the Arizona Department of Transportation’s road crews are taking a couple of days off. The crews regularly pave roads through blisteringly hot summer days, but this weekend’s scheduled Interstate 10 closures have been postponed because it’s too cool to apply rubberized asphalt. – Yes, you heard that right, it’s too cool in mid-May for rubberized asphalt paving. Temps are expected to be in the low to mid-80s on Saturday and Sunday, dipping into the upper 50s to lower 60s. The Arizona Department of Transportation announced the postponement of the planned eastbound closure between 83rd and 51st avenues Friday in a release. The work will be rescheduled, ADOT said. “As part of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway project, 4.5 miles between 43rd and 75th avenues, is getting a rubberized asphalt,” ADOT said. ADOT will inform the public about highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur, ADOT said. In the meantime, be glad you can get from Point A to Point B without delays this weekend, and we hope the road crews enjoy their time off.
