First responders rushed to the scene, located at 951 Washington St. in the Bayview section of the city, around 11 a.m. They found the man, later identified as Michael Baker, of Beverly, and the woman had been struck by a light-duty dump truck. Police said Baker sustained serious injuries and was flown to a Boston hospital. The woman was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Both are expected to survive. Investigators said Baker abruptly picked up the woman and entered the roadway in the path of the truck where they were both struck. Baker was charged with attempted murder, assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with police, authorities said. Baker was expected to be arraigned in Gloucester District Court on Monday.
