Jackie Borchardt Cincinnati Enquirer Published 5:09 PM EDT May 17, 2019 COLUMBUS – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will speak to hundreds of Ohio Democrats gathered here Friday night. State party chairman David Pepper said Pelosi was a perfect fit for the party’s annual legacy dinner. Pepper said Democratic women are “leading the way forward” in D.C. and at the Ohio Statehouse. “As the Democratic candidates gear up for 2020, Pelosi is showing us all what it means to stand up to this president and make him respect the People’s House,” Pepper said in March when the party announced her visit. Tickets cost upwards of $250 apiece. Pelosi’s visit comes as both Republicans and Democrats are ramping up for the 2020 presidential campaign. In March, President Donald Trump toured an Ohio tank plant and held a rally there and Vice President Mike Pence spoke to oil and gas executives near Columbus. Trump won Ohio by 8 points in 2016, after former president Democrat Barack Obama won it twice.
