The power outages that struck Smith Street’s Restaurant Row earlier this week are over, but the damage may have only begun for some of Brooklyn’s best eateries. Days after power outages fried restaurants and other businesses on Smith St., many owners said they were hit hard – and they want Con Edison to cough up refunds. “They suck!” said Carroll Gardens Classic Diner owner Spero Katehis, who claims he lost $12,000 in wasted food and lost business. “They should’ve fixed the problem last year. I believe they’re patching things up. And when you patch up it’s going to break again. It’s 2008, this is New York City, we should have cables that don’t break.” Sporadic failures across the city and Westchester affected about 2,000 of Con Ed’s 3.2 million customers, including dozens in Carroll Gardens and neighboring Boerum Hill. The power failures, which began on Sunday and lasted through much of Tuesday, hit a street that was once lined with bodegas but is now known as Restaurant Row for its glittering array of hot-spot eateries.
